U.S. Diesel Prices Hit All-Time High as Global Fuel Squeeze Deepens

U.S. diesel prices have surged to an unprecedented all-time high, driven by a severe global fuel squeeze that is intensifying economic pressures nationwide. This dramatic price spike stems from a combination of depleted global inventories, robust post-pandemic demand, and ongoing refinery constraints exacerbated by international geopolitical conflicts. As the lifeblood of freight, agriculture, and manufacturing, the soaring cost of diesel threatens to accelerate inflation by making the transportation of everyday goods significantly more expensive. Energy analysts warn that relief may be limited in the near term as refiners struggle to rebuild critically low stockpiles ahead of peak seasonal demand.

The average U.S. diesel price hit a record high late on Thursday, exceeding the previous record from 2022, as the Middle East crisis tightened global fuel markets and sent prices soaring this summer.
